at the University of Illinois
The Moms Association was created in 1923 for "the purpose of promoting the welfare and interest of the University and its students through services and open communications on campus and throughout the state."
When your student accepts admission to the University of Illinois, you are officially a member of the Moms Association. (Likewise, there is a Dads Association in which fathers are automatically a member when their student accepts admission.) There are a lot of ways to get involved once you become part of the University of Illinois community. Below you will find a list of ways to be involved in the Moms Association, information about Moms Weekend - which all Moms Association members and their families are invited to, and a list of the Awards that the Association gives out.
Also, the Illini Union Parent Programs Office teams up with the Dads and Moms Associations to provide you helpful information about the University, about dealing with the transition of your student coming to college, and much more! The Moms Association wants you to enjoy these years as your student gets his or her education at the U of I, and wants to provide you with the resources and opportunities to make it the best 4 (or more) years it can be!

Moms Association Awards
- Moms Association Scholarship 2014
The Moms Association at the University of Illinois is currently accepting applications for their 2014 Scholarship. This one time Scholarship Award of $1,000 is for a full-time undergraduate University of Illinois student who has successfully completed at least 24 college credit hours. This award is determined on a competitive basis and requires the submission of an application form, an essay, a letter of recommendation from someone at the University of Illinois, and college transcript(s).
This scholarship is a vital part of the Moms Association's mission to promote "the welfare and interest of the University and its students through services and open communications on campus and throughout the state."
Please contact the Illini Union Parent Programs Office at 217-333-7063 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions about the award or the committee.
- Humanitarian Service Awards
The Humanitarian Service Award normally recognizes a graduate and an undergraduate student for outstanding and innovative service within the local community with a $250 monetary award and a $250 grant to an organization of the recipient's choice. Administered through the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, this year was unique as only a single recipient was named. Jenny Na, a junior in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, was named this year’s sole recipient of the 2013 Humanitarian Award. To read more about Ms. Na and her accomplishments, click here.
- Medallion of Honor
The most prestigious single award presented annually by the Moms Association. The award honors women associated with the Urbana-Champaign campus for their contributions that have enriched the lives of others. The 2013 Medallion of Honor has been awarded to Laurie Kramer, Assistant Dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) and Director of LAS New Student Advising. Read more about Laurie Kramer here.

Mom of the Year
The Moms Association at the University of Illinois wishes to recognize the support, encouragement and inspiration that mothers and mother-figures offer their students. In honor of the dedication of all University of Illinois mothers and mother-figures, the Moms Association has established the Amelia Alpiner Stern Mom of the Year Award. The award is designed to highlight the diverse contributions of all Illinois Moms and/or those who serve in the role of mom and to honor a very special mother or mother-figure each year.
The Moms Association Board of Directors Awards Committee will review all Mom of the Year applicants and bring their recommendations to the Moms Association Board for final approval. Three finalists will be notified by e-mail and invited to the Friday night Moms Weekend kick-off event, Keep Calm and Celebrate with Mom on April 4, 2014 where the winner will be announced.
The Moms Association is proud to provide students with this opportunity to honor their mothers or mother-figures. Please contact the Illini Union Parent Programs Office at 217-333-7063 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions about the award or the committee.
- Tuition Awards
In collaboration with the Dads Association, each year two students receive tuition awards through the Annual Moms and Dads Associations' Tuition Drawing. The first place student is awarded $10,000 toward their tuition and expenses, and the second place student is awarded $5,000 toward tuition and expenses.
