at the University of Illinois
The Moms Association was created in 1923 for "the purpose of promoting the welfare and interest of the University and its students through services and open communications on campus and throughout the state."
When your student accepts admission to the University of Illinois, you are officially a member of the Moms Association. (Likewise, there is a Dads Association in which fathers are automatically a member when their student accepts admission.) There are a lot of ways to get involved once you become part of the University of Illinois community. Below you will find a list of ways to be involved in the Moms Association, information about Moms Weekend - which all Moms Association members and their families are invited to, and a list of the Awards that the Association gives out.
Also, the Illini Union Parent Programs Office teams up with the Dads and Moms Associations to provide you helpful information about the University, about dealing with the transition of your student coming to college, and much more! The Moms Association wants you to enjoy these years as your student gets his or her education at the U of I, and wants to provide you with the resources and opportunities to make it the best 4 (or more) years it can be!

Moms Association Awards
- Moms Association Scholarship 2013
The Moms Association at the University of Illinois awarded four scholarships this year in the amount of $1,000 to a full-time University of Illinois student who successfully completed at least 24 college credit hours. The Association is proud to announce the recipients of the 2013 scholarship:
William Bruce, a junior majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology.
Maria Jolly, a junior majoring in Earth, Society and Environmental Sustainability.
Rhea Matar, a senior majoring in Special Education.
Clare Rogers, a sophomore majoring in Speech and Hearing Science.
- Humanitarian Service Awards
The Humanitarian Service Award normally recognizes a graduate and an undergraduate student for outstanding and innovative service within the local community with a $250 monetary award and a $250 grant to an organization of the recipient's choice. Administered through the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, this year was unique as only a single recipient was named. Jenny Na, a junior in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, was named this year’s sole recipient of the 2013 Humanitarian Award. To read more about Ms. Na and her accomplishments, click here.
- Medallion of Honor
The most prestigious single award presented annually by the Moms Association. The award honors women associated with the Urbana-Champaign campus for their contributions that have enriched the lives of others. The 2013 Medallion of Honor has been awarded to Laurie Kramer, Assistant Dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) and Director of LAS New Student Advising. Read more about Laurie Kramer here.
- llini Spirit Award
The Illini Spirit Award was created in 2008 to provide financial support to programs and projects that contribute to the safety, health, development and achievement of University of Illinois students. The recipient receives $2,000 toward their program or project. The award is in its sixth year.
The Moms Association is pleased to announce the winner of the 2013 Illini Spirit Award, La Casa Cultural Latina. Funding from the Illini Spirit Award will contribute to La Casa Cultural Latina’s The Latina/o Family Initiative: Integrating Latina/o Parents into Latina/o Life. This initiative is a series of programs that brings Latina/o families into the university setting to better support Latina/o students with their academic success at the University. They include existing programs such as Latina/o Family Visit Day and the Dia de las Madres Reception, as well as new endeavors such as the Family Support Network. The Illini Spirit Award will allow the Latina/o Family Initiative to grow and will in turn increase La Casa Cultural Latina’s ability to expand outreach to Latina/o families in order to increase Latina/o student retention.
